First and foremost! What is sanity?

First and foremost! What is sanity?

Mental capacity, what’s yours like? If it’s anything like mine, you feel like you’ve been listening to a trigonometry lecture for three hours when you’ve only been awake for 30 minutes. Boring, sometimes useless, loud, & completely exhausting to listen to. And if you’re anything like me, you DO appreciate that your kids play with one another, sometimes quietly, most often violently, and that of which them playing together helps you get a tiny little break. But for me lately, it’s been a serious headache…

My threenager is very talented, she has an awesome voice when she sings and actually tries to. But when she’s playing with her little brother, and screaming at the top of her lungs leading her own personal little choir, holy shit, totally gets to my head. Pardon my French, but she’s a pretty big attention whore, so she needs to have all eyes on her at all times. So when she’s singing, and I’m not paying attention, she gets louder and louder and louder until I want to explode. I love her dearly obviously, but this morning, trying to get everyone ready for school and out the door, was like tackling an alligator, or four. That moment that I finally get all the kids in the car, safely, buckled, with all of their accessories (books, toys, backpack and doll) that they have to have in order to have a peaceful car ride, it’s such a sigh of relief, and I don’t even want to get in my car because I want to take in that peaceful, quiet moment that rarely happens. Once I finally get in the car, I take a deep breath and remember that they’re only little once, and those few seconds to myself allow me to regroup, appreciate the “little things” and all that they are, including those “little things” that are BIG things to my threenager, like the screaming at the top of her lungs that she thinks will give her a solo singing show on Disney. Keep rocking girl, don’t let my exhaustion dull your shine. I may not seem so right this second, but I’m your biggest fan!

To all mamas out there whose ears may be bleeding while the first cup of coffee is ice cold from you doing your mom-thang, keep rocking your mom-thang. Us mamas really do have the most important job raising the next generation, so let’s try not raising assholes (even if they’re currently toddler assholes) and focus on raising, brave, smart, strong & independent humans: whether they be singers, entertainers, comedians and individuals with big dreams. We form tomorrow, rock on! Cheers and drink up, betches!
